Bookkeeper – Local School

Morgan County Schools

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Associate Degree or three years' experience in bookkeeping
3. Previous experience in accounting systems preferred

Skills and Abilities:

1. Basic computer and other office machine skills
2. Knowledge and experience with spreadsheet, database, and accounting software
3. Very good writing and oral communication skills

Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrates knowledge of Federal, State, and Local restrictions, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures related to the area of school finance
2. Records detail of school's financial transactions on computerized accounting system
3. Issues and posts receipts for funds received
4. Receives, processes, and maintains record of all requisitions
5. Processes and maintains all record of all purchase orders
6. Reconciles school bank statement
7. Maintains and updates vendor files
8. Receives and processes all invoices for payment
9. Maintains complete record of all financial transactions
10. Generates and distributes local school financial activity reports
11. Reconciles school bank statement
12. Develops and implements system for inventory control
13. Coordinates payroll processing and submits to district's financial department
14. Performs other duties as assigned

Bookkeeper Levels Based on Degree:

• Level I – No post-secondary degree with 3 years bookkeeping experience
• Level II – Associates Degree (AS) in Business-Related Field and a minimum of 6 semester hours in accounting
• Level III – Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Business-Related field and a minimum of 6 semester hours in accounting
• Level IV – BS Degree in Accounting

Physical Requirements:

1. Is well-groomed and appropriately dressed
2. Represents the school system, school, and all school personnel in a positive manner at all times

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
