About the Role The Finance Manager serves as the second-in-command to the Director of Finance and plays a critical role in overseeing the organization's financial operations and planning processes. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the accounting function through management of an outsourced accounting partner while leading financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting. Partners closely with operational leaders to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making. This role combines operational finance leadership with hands-on analytical responsibilities and serves as the primary backup to the Director of Finance. Essential Job Functions Financial Planning & Analysis • Provides information to support strategic plans and projects, as needed. Resolves complex accounting issues and provides accounting functional expertise and consultation to leadership and/or other departments. • Ensures the maintenance of complete financial records. Reviews, monitors, and analyzes accounting and financial data. • Collaborates with the Finance Director to lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting activities. • Develops and maintains financial models to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and operational initiatives. • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages, variance analyses, dashboards, and executive presentations. Provides ad-hoc reports for management, board, and other stakeholders, as needed. • Analyzes financial performance, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership. • Partners with department leaders to monitor budgets, evaluate financial performance, and improve decision-making. • Supports long-range financial planning, scenario modeling, and cash flow forecasting. Accounting Oversight • Oversees and manages the daily operation of the accounting function, including but not limited to Accounts Payable/Receivable, Fixed Asset Management, and other General Ledger accounts. • Serves as the primary liaison with the outsourced accounting provider, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all accounting activities. • Reviews monthly financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by the outsourced accounting team.
• Coordinates monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Monitors accounting systems and processes for compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards. • Resolves accounting issues, identify process improvements, and ensure service level expectations are met by the outsourced provider.
• Coordinates annual audits and serves as a key point of contact for external auditors. Cash Management & Operations
• Supports cash management activities, including cash flow monitoring and forecasting. • Reviews and monitors accounts receivable performance, collections, and aging reports. • Ensures timely completion and review of bank reconciliations and other key balance sheet reconciliations.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
• Drives efficient operations through evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of controls, systems, and procedures to increase accuracy and efficiency. Understands and incorporates benchmarks and other metrics to guide operational efficiencies. • Identifies opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, automation, and operational efficiency. • Strengthens internal controls and ensure compliance with organizational policies. • Partners with cross-functional teams to implement system enhancements and improve financial data quality. • Supports implementation and enhancements of new financial systems, reporting tools, and business initiatives. • Establishes and ensures proper accounting methods, policies, and procedures are complied with and internal controls are in place. Researches accounting issues and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and/or other regulatory requirements; interprets and applies to accounting policies and accounting operations.
People Management • Leads and mentors team, providing guidance and support on educational and developmental opportunities relevant to the position • Establishes and drives a healthy team environment. Proactively addresses employee safety, morale and operational concerns • Evaluates the performance of programs and recommends solutions to improve performance, when needed • Responsible for interview, selection, orientation, training, performance management, and transfer/promotion of direct reports. Initiates disciplinary action and termination as appropriate in accordance with relevant policies, collective bargaining agreements, and job expectations • Monitors and ensures staff productivity, including schedules, overtime, time off and leaves, and absenteeism. Reviews and approves timesheets • Identifies opportunities to improve performance or enhance collaboration • Participates in inter-departmental committees, teams and task forces as needed

• Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required. CPA or Certified Management Accountant preferred. Experience & Other Qualifications • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial planning and analysis, or corporate finance, including 2 years in a supervisory or lead role. Experience in non-profit or healthcare organizations preferred. • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting principles, and other accounting practices, standards, laws, and regulations. . • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting principles including experience supporting executive leadership with strategic financial analysis • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manipulate large amounts of data • Demonstrated ability to manage staff, including planning work, assigning duties, coaching, and evaluating performance. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy. • Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and discretion in a managerial capacity. • Effective written and verbal communication skills. • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse professional and non-professional staff. • Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases. Preferred • Experience with non-profit accounting • Experience with ERP systems and financial planning software. • Experience leading process improvement initiatives and implementing financial controls • Experience overseeing outsourced accounting services or managing third-party financial service providers.
