Staff Accountant

Key ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the month-end close process, including:Preparing and posting journal entriesPerforming account reconciliationsAssisting with financial reporting and variance analysisSupport the corporate credit card expense reconciliation process, including:Reviewing and approving employee expense submissionsVerifying receipts and ensuring proper expense codingEnsuring compliance with company expense policiesCross-train and provide support across accounting functions, which may include:Learning all functions of the Accounts Payable processProcessing employee expense reports and mileage reimbursementsEntering expense invoices and supporting Accounts Payable activitiesPreparing budget-to-actual comparison reportsSupporting audits and special projectsSupport sales tax compliance activities, including:Requesting and maintaining customer sales tax exemption certificatesImporting and validating exemption certificates in AvalaraMaintaining accurate customer tax recordsPreparing and managing sales tax filings and related accountsProviding exemption certificates to vendors as neededCollaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate and timely financial informationParticipate in process improvement initiativesQualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required0-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experienceExperience with ERP systems such as Prophet 21 or sales tax platforms such as Avalara is a plus.Critical Skills & CompetenciesProficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting systemsStrong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracyExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to research and interpret sales tax regulationsTeam-oriented mindset with willingness to cross-train and support othersCommitment to continuous improvementAbility to work independently and collaborativelyReporting StructureReports to: ControllerDirect Reports: NoneAdditional ResponsibilitiesProvide cross-functional support within Accounts Receivable and Accounts PayableParticipate in process improvement initiativesPerform other duties as assignedWork EnvironmentThis position is primarily in-office to support collaboration with the accounting team and cross-functional departments.Work is primarily sedentary and involves extended periods of computer useMay occasionally require standing, walking, bending, and light liftingOffice conditions are typical, with adequate lighting, temperature control, and minimal noiseCBT is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
