Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) – UI Health, Center for Women’s Health Location: Chicago, IL USA Department: Center for Women’s Health Position: Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified)

Schedule: Days; 40 hours/week Workplace: On‑Site Under the direction of the Physician, performs a variety of clinical and clerical services to support physician practice in an outpatient setting. Duties & Responsibilities A Certified Medical Assistant performs duties per facility protocols and specific assignments. Maintains medical records in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, reviews and prepares EHR to ensure completeness. Assists nursing/medical staff with preliminary assessment, education, and documentation. Obtains vital signs and conducts patient screenings during intake. Administers basic tests such as EKG, spirometry, pulse oximetry, and CLIA procedures. Prepares patients for diagnostic/test areas and handles specimen collection (capillary and venipuncture). Assists with diagnostic/therapeutic procedures as appropriate. Responds to patient inquiries and relays information to clinical staff. Transports or accompanies patients as directed. Documents medications for reconciliation and administers approved injections per protocol. Completes requisitions for diagnostic tests under supervision. Collects and processes patient specimens; performs point‑of‑care testing and records results. Maintains patient care environment in compliance with safety and infection control requirements. Performs and documents equipment quality control tests and cleans/sterilizes supplies. Obtains pre‑authorizations and referrals. Maintains patient files, schedules appointments, checks patients in/out, requisitions charts, and manages accounts. Records lab data; assists office reception and business support functions. Collects cash payments and maintains accurate records. Participates in process design, development, and implementation of EHR and technology improvement projects. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent. Current, valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant from an approved certifying board (AAMA, AMT, NCCTI, or NHA). Current, valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Basic first aid principles, aseptic and sterilization techniques. Competency in point‑of‑care testing and venipuncture. Skill in specialized testing. Inventory, medical records policies and documentation proficiency. Telephone communication skills. Interpersonal skills with diverse patient populations. Billing and collection procedures knowledge. Accuracy in writing requisitions and recording vital statistics. Decision‑making based on urgency and adherence to procedures. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Effective patient and staff interactions. Work organization skills. Knowledge of UIC policies and procedures. Registration and scheduling proficiency.
