Underwriting Assistant

The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB) was founded on June 30, 1866. "Hartford Standards" quickly became the specifications for boiler design, manufacture and maintenance.

HSB is a leader in equipment breakdown insurance, specialty coverages, inspection services, and engineering-based risk management for business, home and farm.

Purpose: Provide support to Underwriting by qualifying accounts according to HSB guidelines. Research property locations for prior coverage and losses, assign occupancies to locations using established performance standards that are responsive to marketing, underwriting, retention and services goals. Focus on special handling and highly serviceable accounts (HAS), including hospitals, municipalities and colleges. Take inbound phone calls and communicating with brokers/agencies, customers and internal departments.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required. Experience in providing exceptional customer experience and handling customer escalations. Experience with internet research.

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent data entry, telephone and PC skills. Familiar with MS Office Suite. Proficient in Excel with the ability to create, format, calculate and report. Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem solving, analytical and presentation skills. Attention to detail. Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and ensure assignments are delivered on time.
