PAY: $95,000 - $120,000 (Total package is competitive and comprehensive)

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Controls Manager is a teaching role at its core. Working under the Director of Project Controls, this person is responsible for making sure project teams understand and correctly apply the WW Clyde Project Management Guide, project controls standards, and the systems that support them. That means training Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Superintendents, and interns on how to build a budget, manage a forecast, read a cost report, and run a project the WW Clyde way.

The technical side matters. This person must be strong enough in project financials, forecasting, and reporting to teach the material with authority and to catch problems in the numbers before they become problems on the job. But the day to day is people work: sitting with a Field Engineer who is struggling with a forecast, walking a new Project Manager through month end, building the training material that did not exist before.

We are looking for someone with a real appetite to learn and a real appetite to teach. Construction experience helps. Curiosity, patience, and the ability to explain a hard thing simply matter more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Train, mentor, and coach Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Superintendents, and interns on company processes, project controls practices, and technology systems.
• Lead onboarding and ongoing training for project personnel, including live instruction, one on one support, and follow up to confirm the material actually took hold.
• Develop, document, and maintain training materials, reference guides, SOPs, and process documentation. Build what does not exist yet.
• Serve as the subject matter expert on WW Clyde project controls standards, systems, and the Project Management Guide.
• Teach and support project financials, including budget development, cost forecasting, cost reporting, and month end close. Sit with teams in the work, not just present at them.
• Analyze financial reports and forecasts to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Bring findings back to teams as coaching moments rather than corrections.
• Review month end project reporting for accuracy and use the results to target where additional training is needed.
• Develop and maintain project control plans covering schedule, budget, forecast, and scope for assigned projects.
• Lead the development and rollout of project reporting tools and processes, including progress reports, budget reports, forecasts, and risk reporting.
• Create and maintain data analytics that measure project performance and adherence to intended scope.
• Oversee new project setup and project closeout processes, using both as training opportunities for project teams.
• Diagnose user, process, and system issues, identify root causes, and work with teams to implement practical solutions.
• Drive adoption of new processes and systems through change management, patience, and follow through.
• Build strong, trusted working relationships with field and project teams. Be the person they call before the problem gets big.
• Partner with fellow Project Controls Managers and department leadership to keep training, process, and system support consistent across all regions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated experience training, coaching, mentoring, or developing others in a professional setting. This is the core of the job.
• Strong working knowledge of project financials, including budgets, forecasting, cost reporting, and variance analysis. Must be able to teach this material, not just perform it.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in project controls, project management, operations support, finance, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, ERP systems, and project management software, with the ability to learn new platforms quickly and then teach them to others.
• Genuine desire to keep learning. This role sits at the front of every process and system change in the company, and the person in it has to want that.
• Ability to explain complex processes clearly and patiently to people at very different experience levels.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
• Ability to travel to project sites within the region as needed. Must maintain an insurable driving record.

PREFERRED

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Engineering, Education, or a related field.
• Experience in construction, particularly heavy civil, and familiarity with how project teams operate in the field.
• Experience developing training curriculum, SOPs, or process documentation from scratch.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, HeavyJob, HeavyBid, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Power BI, or Smartsheet.
• Prior experience leading change management or system implementation initiatives.
