Sous Chef

Pate's is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen leadership team. This is a hands-on culinary role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and takes pride in consistent, high-quality execution. As Sous Chef, you'll work closely with the Executive Chef to run daily kitchen operations, lead the line cook team, and help maintain the high standards Pate's is known for. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, including prep, line service, and closing procedures Ensure consistent food quality, plating, and portioning across all shifts Step in on the line during peak service to support speed and quality Monitor ticket times and communicate with front-of-house to keep service flowing smoothly Supervise, train, and mentor line cooks and kitchen staff Create and manage prep lists and station assignments Provide hands-on coaching during service and support staff development Help foster a positive, respectful, and high-performing kitchen culture Food Safety & Sanitation Enforce ServSafe and allergen protocols across the kitchen Maintain compliance with health department standards and internal cleanliness procedures Monitor proper food storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO) Conduct regular equipment and station checks Inventory & Ordering Assist with inventory counts, ordering, and vendor coordination Help manage food costs and minimize waste Support menu execution and occasional recipe/menu development with the Executive Chef Administrative Support Assist with scheduling and shift coverage as needed Step in for the Executive Chef in their absence Help onboard and train new kitchen hires Qualifications Culinary education (degree or certificate) or equivalent hands-on kitchen experience Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership kitchen role preferred Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation, and kitchen equipment Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment Strong communication and team leadership skills ServSafe and Allergen Certification required (support provided to obtain if not already certified Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs Comfortable working around heat, sharp tools, and kitchen equipment Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as need Schedule Full-time, with availability required for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts based on restaurant needs What Governor Bradford Offers A respected, established restaurant with a loyal following A vibrant, high-energy kitchen and bar atmosphere A supportive team culture built on great food and hospitality Support in obtaining required certifications, if needed Opportunity to grow into a larger leadership role #J-18808-Ljbffr
