Position Summary

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction and development projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Accounting to ensure accurate job costing, budgeting, invoicing, and forecasting. The Project Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity and profitability of each project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Financial Management (Procore)

• Monitor project budgets and track actual costs against approved budgets.
• Analyze budget variances and communicate findings to management.
• Assist with project forecasting and cost-to-complete analyses.
• Maintain proficiency within Procore, including:
• • Prime Contracts
  • • PCSA
    • HCC
  • Budget Maintenance
  • Direct Costs
  • AP Invoicing
  • Waivers
  • Insurance Tracking

Job Cost Accounting

• Review and verify project-related invoices and expenses.
• Ensure costs are accurately coded to the appropriate project, phase, and cost code.
• Maintain accurate job cost records and track commitments.

Subcontractor and Vendor Management

• Review subcontractor payment applications and supporting documentation.
• Track retainage balances and release schedules.
• Assist subcontractors with training and troubleshooting, as needed.
• Collect and maintain required compliance documentation, including:
• • Conditional and Unconditional Waiver Releases (automated through Procore Pay)
  • Certificates of Insurance (automated through Procore Pay)
  • W-9 Forms
  • Executed Subcontracts
• Ensure all compliance requirements are met prior to payment processing (automated through Procore Pay where applicable).

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

• 3+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate development, engineering, or a related industry.
• Experience with job cost accounting and project financial management.
• Familiarity with construction contracts, change orders, and retainage.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and job costing.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP and project management systems, including:
• • Sage Intacct
  • Procore
  • QuickBooks Enterprise
  • Bluebeam
