Planning Supervisor

As a Planning Supervisor, you will be empowered to bring your abilities and expertise to develop key programs, influence and develop a team, and collaborate with other peers to execute best practices in the Materials department. The Planning Supervisor leads the activities of the assigned Master Scheduler(s) and Planner(s) responsible for scheduling production for assigned value streams. This ideal candidate for this position will have a high level of organization, excellent communication, and coordination skills in a safe and effective manner to drive continuous improvement and ensure processes are implemented and followed. Primary Responsibilities Design and implement comprehensive planning strategies to optimize resource allocation, streamline workflows, and enhance operational efficiency. Oversee all aspects of the planning process, including scheduling, forecasting, and capacity planning. Ensure seamless coordination between different departments to align planning efforts with organizational objectives. Own the plant SIOP process for assigned value streams and ensure acceptance through collaboration with all internal and external stakeholders. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly monitor performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of planning activities. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures as necessary. Lead a team of master schedulers and planners, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure the successful execution of planning initiatives. Foster a collaborative and cohesive team environment focused on achieving collective goals. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as production managers, supply chain professionals, and finance teams, to gather input, align planning activities with business goals, and address any cross-functional issues or challenges. Continuously evaluate planning processes and procedures to identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency gains. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance planning effectiveness and adaptability. Stay updated on relevant regulations, industry standards, and internal policies related to planning activities. Ensure compliance with all applicable requirements and take proactive measures to mitigate any potential risks or compliance issues. Generate regular reports and analysis on planning performance, highlighting key insights, trends, and areas for improvement. Present findings to senior management and provide recommendations for strategic decision‑making. Required Skills Advanced computer skills including the use of Office Suite and especially Excel. Advanced previous use and understanding of MRP systems, JDE a plus. Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and distribute time‑sensitive and accurate data. Demonstrated understanding of lean manufacturing practices. Ability to adapt and suggest system & technology changes with current systems. Ability to blend multiple sources of data to formulate opinions and recommendations, possess an analytical mindset. Comfortable coaching, developing, and holding others accountable. Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence. Ability to create, follow and challenge Standard Work processes daily. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify roadblocks in material/information flow and manage exceptions. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum 3 years professional supply chain experience leading teams. Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead toward common goals. Experience working with and interpreting orders, BOMS, and inventory/ERP systems. Possess a valid driver’s license. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, logistics, or engineering. Experience using JDE E1. Physical Requirements Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, and/or ear plugs as required. Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers. Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands or arm’s length. Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch frequently. Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level. Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces as required by work area. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in all directions. Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate positions as necessary. Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements. Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold). Ability to communicate with others to exchange information in person, by phone, or via computer. Ability to safely drive/operate motorized equipment/PIT.
