Patient Service Coordinator

We are seeking a Patient Service Coordinator who;will offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance toensure every patient has an outstanding customer service experienceduring his or her visit to Wilmer Columbia. Maintains accurateinformation on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter.Uses automated systems to expedite patient scheduling,pre-registration, check-in, and checkout. Works with others in ateam environment. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Screens patient calls and medical issues. Answers patientquestions where appropriate and determines if physician response isrequired Registers patients for clinical appointments using electronicmedical record system (epic). Conduct screening for all patients and visitors Answers phones and provides routine information tocallers. Responds to medical records requests. Scans medical recordsdocuments into the electronic medical records system. Monitors the in-basket in the electronic medical record system.Handles routine in-basket requests and forwards other messages tothe appropriate resource. Documents appropriately in thesystem. Collects time of service payments, provides receipts, andprepares end-of-day reconciliation. Discusses patient charges, if appropriate, with patients and/orpatients' families. Refers patient to appropriate office if financial counseling isnecessary. Assists with basic insurance and third-party queries andexplains payment policies. Assists with back-office duties as needed to ensure consistentpatient flow. Reschedules patients when provider clinic schedulechanges. Maintains familiarity with various types of medical insuranceto properly schedule patients and answer patient questions. Schedules patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations,and procedures. Resolves any scheduling conflicts. Uses automated records systems to access, enter, and editpatient information. Coordinates patient appointments either within the office orbetween other offices and/or departments. Verifies and enters pre-registration and insurance informationinto the electronic medical record system (Epic). Obtains and/orverifies patient's demographic data by phone or in person. May obtain pre-certifications as required by patients' healthcare insurers or managed care providers. Fills vacancies due to cancellations. Responds to requests for completion of various medical formsfor patients (MVA forms, disability forms, worker’s compensationforms, etc.) Demonstrates awareness of limitations of institutionalresources and seeks to maximize physician scheduling within thiscontext. Proactively seeks to schedule/reschedule patients forefficient utilization of resources (e.g., backfill to covercancellations or add urgent appointments). Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electroniccalendars, and other basic office support software. Provide other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or graduation equivalent One year work experience in customer service required. Twoyears related work experience preferred. Additional education may substitute for required experience tothe extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications Two years of college or equivalent work experiencepreferred. Two years related ophthalmology/JHH system work experiencestrongly preferred. Medical terminology and knowledge of medical insurance coveragepreferred. This may includedocumentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicellavaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratorytesting. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases areordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except forthose employees who provide results of blood tests or immunizationdocumentation from their own health care providers.
