Senior Scientist, Protein Therapeutics - Mammalian Expression & Cell Line Engineering

Amgen seeks a Senior Scientist to lead mammalian expression and cell line engineering efforts supporting protein therapeutic discovery. The role combines technical expertise in expression systems and host cell engineering with hands-on laboratory work to optimize antibodies, bispecifics, and next-generation modalities. The successful candidate will drive innovation in platform development, automation, and data-driven optimization while collaborating across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical expert in mammalian expression and cell line engineering across protein therapeutic programs
• Execute wet laboratory experiments for therapeutic protein expression in mammalian cells at bench and medium scales
• Develop and implement innovative mammalian expression and host cell engineering approaches to improve productivity and quality
• Solve complex technical problems related to protein expression, post-translational modification, and stability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including protein engineering, analytics, and data sciences to advance discovery programs

Requirements

• PhD, PharmD, or MD with postdoctoral experience, or Master's with 3+ years cell biology experience, or Bachelor's with 5+ years cell biology experience
• Deep expertise in mammalian cell biology, expression construct design, and host cell engineering
• Experience developing or implementing automated, high-throughput, or data-rich expression workflows
• Understanding of how protein sequence, structure, and biophysical properties affect expression and developability
• Demonstrated scientific productivity through publications, patents, or technology implementations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
