1st Shift Production Supervisor – Assembly & Scheduling

Location: Chicago, IL
Department: Production / Assembly

We are seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead day-to-day assembly operations while managing production scheduling, labor allocation, and workflow across multiple production lines.

This position requires more than strong production knowledge. We are looking for a people-focused leader who can motivate and develop employees, build a positive team environment, and confidently address performance, attendance, and other employee related matters when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and provide hands-on leadership to a team of fewer than 20 production and assembly employees.
• Develop and execute daily and weekly production schedules across multiple assembly lines.
• Allocate employees and resources based on priorities, capacity, run rates, and material availability.
• Adjust production schedules in real time due to changing priorities, labor shortages, quality concerns, or material constraints.
• Identify orders at risk of missing scheduled ship dates and communicate issues early.
• Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Material Handling, and Shipping to keep orders moving.
• Coach, motivate, train, and develop production employees.
• Address employee performance and conduct issues and administer corrective action when appropriate.
• Monitor productivity, efficiency, run rates, downtime, labor hours, rework, and production bottlenecks.
• Manage Material Handling activities, including cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and annual physical inventory.
• Coordinate Shipping activities to ensure completed orders are scheduled and picked up according to the production plan.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and quality-focused manufacturing environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, workflow, and overall throughput.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production, manufacturing, or assembly leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience with production scheduling and labor planning .
• Strong hands-on leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, develop, and hold employees accountable .
• Experience managing changing production priorities and resolving day-to-day floor issues.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly operations, and production workflows.
• Experience identifying production bottlenecks and implementing solutions.
• Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems .
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-moving production environment.
