Athletic Trainer Assistant
This is a ten (10) month, full-time, benefits-eligible position and is expected to end at the conclusion of the 10-month appointment. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours. Additional hours may be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some travel may be required.
This position is designated as an Administrative and Professional and serves without a fixed term and at the pleasure of the President, pursuant to the University's Handbook of Operation Procedures 5-1230, "Appointment and Term of Appointment for Administrative Professionals."
Assist the Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine, Associate Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Trainer in servicing the medical needs of baseball and softball student-athletes with special reference to the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
- Assist in providing primary medical coverage for athletic teams (i.e., Baseball and Softball) as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine, to include all practices, home competitions, and host events. Assist in designing, initiating and progressing rehabilitation programs as needed according to the changing health status of injured/ill athletes.
- Assist in the design and implementation of exercise and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes with medical conditions and test results that warrant such programs.
- Assist in maintaining electronic medical records. Assist in evaluating readiness to compete.
- Assist in facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration by working with relevant allied health disciplines (i.e., chiropractic, nutrition, massage therapy, etc.) in the pursuit of health care solutions. Adhere to institutional policies and NCAA rules with regards to medical care. Assist with drug testing of student-athletes in accordance with institutional and NCAA regulations.
- Assist with oversight of Sports Medicine Aides and MSAT Immersion Students. Work cooperatively with other staff, coaches and department personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine, Associate Athletic Trainer, and Assistant Athletic Trainer.
- Other related functions as assigned. Drive a UT and/or personal rental vehicle on and off campus.

Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field. Licensed Athletic Trainer by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (or eligible). Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively work in teams. Strong organization and problem-solving skills. Proven effectiveness in cross-disciplinary collaboration both inside (in other units and functions) and outside the organization. Experience with creation, acquisition, and maintenance of medical records. Knowledge and support of NCAA rules and regulations. Demonstrated understanding of the medical needs, expectations, and requirements of student-athletes to promote, maintain, and enhance their health and well-being. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Athletic Training or related field. NATABOC certification (or eligible). Athletic Training experience at the NCAA Division I level. Athletic training experience in Baseball and Softball. Advanced certifications in adjunct allied health specialties or demonstrated advanced clinical skill set. Experience in athletic training student supervision. Experience implementing complementary and alternative therapies into conventional plans of care when appropriate.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$29,700 (based on 10-month appointment per year)
