Job Description Summary The Student Nurse Tech assists with patient care under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. Provides patient care services to include basic hygiene, bathing and feeding functions. Obtains vital signs. Appropriately documents findings and information. Communicates appropriate information to the staff as required. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy. Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data. Has access to minimal risk medications contained in kits, trays or packs associated with certain procedures, as well as IV fluids stored in patient care areas and automated dispensing units. Assist physicians or nurses with procedures. Collect specimens in accordance with established policies and final check. Perform Bladder Scans. Perform urinary catheterization. Perform non-medicated dressing changes. Perform sterile techniques as needed for any listed activity. Perform EKGs. Visit patients to assess care received using patient family focused care and customer service guidelines. Follows the MUSC Standards of Behaviors. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Successful passing of Fundamentals of Nursing Course as determined by the institution in which they are enrolled. Currently participating in a Nursing program at an accredited institution. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
