Senior Piping Designer

Senior Piping DesignerWe are seeking an experienced Senior Piping Designer with strong plant layout experience, preferably within the power generation industry, to join a growing engineering and design team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position serves as a technical leader responsible for plant layout development, design execution, and coordination across multidisciplinary project teams supporting large-scale power, energy, and industrial projects.The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience developing complex piping layouts, leading design efforts, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring constructible, code-compliant, and efficient facility designs.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and execute plant layout design activities with a focus on constructability, safety, maintainability, and compliance with applicable codes and industry standards.Support department leadership with technical execution, schedule management, quality assurance, and budget awareness related to piping design and layout activities.Assist with the development and review of project proposals and engineering estimates.Direct and coordinate the work of piping designers, drafters, and support personnel throughout project execution.Develop, review, and approve general arrangement drawings and plant layout packages.Develop, review, and approve piping plans, piping arrangements, sections, isometrics, and 3D models.Manage piping design deliverables including layout drawings, construction drawings, material take-offs, and bills of materials.Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to designers, drafters, and checkers.Manage defined scopes of work or piping systems on large and complex projects.Coordinate with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and construction teams to resolve design and interface challenges.Interface with clients, vendors, and construction personnel to ensure project requirements are properly incorporated into design deliverables.Review vendor and fabrication drawings for compliance with project requirements and layout intent.Maintain engineering document indexes and piping progress reports.Support project planning, scheduling, staffing forecasts, and resource requirements.Perform additional duties as required to support project and departmental objectives.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or Associate Degree with relevant drafting and design coursework.12+ years of piping design and plant layout experience in industrial facilities.Experience supporting power generation projects such as combined cycle, simple cycle, thermal, utility-scale, or similar industrial facilities preferred.Proven expertise in piping layout development for complex industrial plants.Strong understanding of piping codes, standards, and industry best practices.Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or similar design software.Experience with Plant 3D and/or AVEVA E3D strongly preferred.Proficiency with Navisworks and Microsoft Office applications.Demonstrated leadership experience directing design teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project efforts.Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.Preferred QualificationsCertificate in Design/Drafting or related technical discipline.Direct experience with power plant piping layout, including: Turbine BuildingsHRSG SystemsBalance-of-Plant SystemsUtility and Auxiliary SystemsExperience supporting EPC and industrial facility projects from conceptual design through construction.Additional InformationContract-to-Hire opportunity with long-term growth potential.Opportunity to work on major power generation, energy, and industrial infrastructure projects.Collaborative environment with exposure to multidisciplinary engineering teams and large-scale project execution.We do not accept unsolicited resumes from third-party recruiters or staffing agencies.
