Pediatrician - Health Equity for Adolescents in the Legal System (HEAL)

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for a full time Pediatrician - Health Equity for Adolescents in the Legal System (HEAL) with the Administration for Children's Services (ACS). PAGNY staffs several municipal hospitals and clinics within New York City through an affiliation agreement with NYC Health + Hospitals . PAGNY’s corporate staff provides administrative, practice management, and human resources services in support of its more than 4,000 clinical providers. The HEAL Program is a new NYC Health + Hospitals initiative to transition into being the primary provider of medical services to young people in City custody. The staff will be responsible for 24/7 medical care across two secure detention sites, two school-based health centers, and limited pharmacy services at seven non‑secure sites (group homes). Services include comprehensive medical screenings, dental screenings and procedures, vaccinations and routine testing, responses to immediate needs, and referrals for care within and outside the NYC Health + Hospitals system. Opportunity Details Work locations: Crossroads Juvenile Center and/or Horizon Juvenile Center. Schedule: 40 hours per week – days, overnight, and weekends. Provide medical care to ACS adolescents, ensuring safety and security measures. Gather relevant patient history, identify patient needs, and understand diagnoses. Develop and implement treatment plans using diagnostic data. Perform complete well‑care examinations, including physical examinations. Perform complete gynecological histories and physical examinations. Write prescriptions and inform patients about medications prescribed; obtain parent/guardian consents when needed. Document completed medical forms and patient care records. Make and track referrals to other agencies and providers, with follow‑up care. Assist with phlebotomy as needed to ensure smooth patient flow. Administer immunizations as needed. Distribute, refill, discard, and manage medication supplies for patients. Complete court orders and all other ACS‑mandated paperwork. Evaluate and treat ACS employees (only on an emergent basis). Provide health education on topics including, but not limited to, preventive medicine and counseling on chronic diseases, parenting, prenatal care, nutrition, family planning, medication usage, and stress management. Administrative duties: Participate in patient outreach. Participate in case conferences where patient care is discussed. Assist the Medical Director in developing and implementing medical protocols and forms. Initiate and participate in research related to health care or allied fields in collaboration with the Medical Director. Qualifications Current New York State Physician registration. Board certification in General Pediatrics. Minimum of three years of related experience working with family, pediatric, adolescent, or urban populations. Must pass all appropriate screenings to work in a secured setting with young people. Spanish language proficiency preferred (not required). Wages and Benefits include: Annual base salary: $220,000* (board certified) based on a 40‑hour work week. The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $242,000** (board certified), which includes baseline salary, 401(k) contributions, and other factors as set forth below: 401(k) company contribution (subject to IRS limits): Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required. After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
