Electromechanical Assembler (Level 1 & Level 2)
This role focuses on building precision electronic and electrical subassemblies from detailed kits and instructions. Level 1 assemblers primarily organize, prepare, and process materials for the initial stages of assembly, while Level 2 assemblers complete the full build, test, and calibration of subassemblies that integrate into final components. You will work with small, intricate parts, follow detailed drawings and procedures, and support high-quality production in a climate-controlled, first-shift manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Receive kits and boxes of instructions and materials and organize, prep, and stage components according to customer specifications.
- Manually solder surface mount and fine-pitch components, braze, fuse, and spot weld small intricate parts using a variety of fluxes, solder pastes, and braze metals.
- Perform manual micro welding operations, including spot welding, fusing, and brazing on miniature components and subassemblies, often under microscopic conditions and using semi-automated winding and dipping equipment.
- Cut, bend, and straighten various types of stainless steel and copper tubing to specified dimensions.
- Measure, cut, and strip lead wires and cables using small manual hand tools or automatic lead-cutting machines, and verify dimensions with scales, tape measures, calipers, and production-related gauges.
- Assemble and test components using small hand tools and electronic test instruments such as digital multimeters, meggers, and dielectric testers, sometimes under a microscope.
- Prepare and apply a variety of fluxes, epoxies, cements, and lubricants to components or subassemblies, including those requiring special handling procedures.
- Perform production pass-fail testing, which may include preparing ice baths for calibration testing and documenting results.
- Carry out simple typing, etching, or stamping functions to label products and ensure proper identification.
- Follow established safety practices and maintain housekeeping standards in the work area.
- Maintain product and process quality by adhering to regulations, procedures, instructions, and standards, and accurately completing required documentation.
- Use detailed schematic drawings, production illustrations, and written instructions to guide assembly and testing activities, especially in Level 2 work.
- Apply shop math and handbook references to compute measurements and maintain records for various applications.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, share information, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Adopt and promote a "continuous improvement" philosophy by developing and implementing new ideas and concepts to enhance processes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and meet customer requirements.
Essential Skills
- For Level 1: 02 years of experience or training/specialization in a manufacturing environment.
- For Level 2: 5+ years of experience or training/specialization in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
- Soldering experience, including manual soldering of surface mount and fine-pitch components.
- Ability to perform hand welding and micro welding operations such as spot welding, fusing, and brazing on miniature components.
- Proficiency in wire crimping and handling lead wires and cables.
- Basic computer skills for Level 1 and intermediate computer skills for Level 2.
- Ability to read and follow simple drawings, wiring diagrams, and written procedures for Level 1, and both simple and complex drawings, wiring diagrams, and detailed written procedures for Level 2.
- Ability to use small manual hand tools and, for Level 2, more complicated test equipment and instruments such as digital multimeters, meggers, dielectric testers, and semi-automated winding and dipping equipment.
- Ability to interpret and work from detailed schematic drawings, production illustrations, and written instructions for various applications, especially in Level 2.
- Capability to make simple computations using basic math skills and, for Level 2, to use shop math or handbooks to compute and maintain records.
- Good vision (with correction acceptable) to work on small, intricate components and perform tasks under a microscope when required.
- Physical ability to sit or bend for extended periods of time, with occasional standing and walking for up to 1 hour and sitting for up to 2 hours.
- Physical capability to lift or pull up to 50 pounds as needed in the production environment.
- Ability to obtain company-specific qualifications or certifications as required for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to living a "continuous improvement" philosophy by developing and adopting new ideas and concepts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, and electronic assembly in a production setting.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems, wiring practices, and electrical wiring of subassemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and production documentation.
- Experience using hand tools for assembly, cutting, stripping, and crimping tasks.
- Comfort working with fluxes, epoxies, cements, and lubricants, including materials with special handling requirements.
- Electronics training is a plus, particularly for Level 2 positions.
- Experience performing production pass-fail testing and calibration procedures, including ice bath preparation.
- Attention to detail in labeling products through typing, etching, or stamping functions.
- Strong focus on safety, housekeeping, and adherence to quality standards and documentation requirements.
- Interest in working within a smaller team environment and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.
