The Opportunity

\n

We are seeking an experienced Area Operations Manager to lead multiple heavy civil construction projects throughout Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut.

\n

\n

This is a senior leadership position responsible for the overall operational and financial success of multiple projects. The ideal candidate will bring an extensive heavy civil background, proven experience managing construction teams, and the ability to oversee project execution, profitability, staffing, scheduling, and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Oversee the planning, execution, and overall performance of multiple heavy civil construction projects simultaneously.
\n
• Lead and support Project Managers, Superintendents, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.
\n
• Maintain accountability for project budgets, profitability, cost controls, financial reporting, and overall operational performance.
\n
• Review construction schedules, identify potential delays, and develop strategies to keep projects on track.
\n
• Manage contractual obligations, change orders, claims, disputes, and negotiations with project owners.
\n
• Coordinate project staffing, resource allocation, equipment needs, and subcontractor procurement.
\n
• Build and maintain strong relationships with project owners, public agencies, subcontractors, and internal leadership.
\n
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards, quality requirements, and applicable regulations.
\n
• Conduct regular project financial and operational reviews to identify risks and improve performance.
\n
• Mentor and develop construction personnel while supporting the continued growth of regional operations.

Qualifications

\n

\n
• 15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction required.
\n
• 10+ years of experience managing construction teams required.
\n
• Strong background delivering heavy civil, highway, transportation, or related infrastructure projects.
\n
• Proven experience overseeing multiple projects and construction teams simultaneously.
\n
• Strong understanding of construction means and methods, project scheduling, budgeting, and cost controls.
\n
• Demonstrated experience managing contractual risk, change orders, claims, and owner negotiations.
\n
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
\n
• Experience with self-performed heavy civil construction operations is highly desirable.
\n
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
\n
• Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.
\n
• Valid driver's license required.
\n
