SF Environment’s Construction and Demolition Zero Waste team needs a skilled project manager and collaborator to drive large‑scale behavior change, manage sustainable building materials, and engage partners to advance shared objectives. The role strengthens San Francisco’s leadership in sustainability and supports the city’s Climate Action Plan. Responsibilities Develop, coordinate, and implement programs, policies, and partnerships to increase reuse, recycling, and composting outcomes in the construction sector. Coordinate compliance efforts with environmental code chapters, designing, analyzing, revising, and making recommendations for program enhancements. Engage and work collaboratively with city staff, building industry experts and organizations, local and state authorities, community‑based organizations, businesses, residents, and other stakeholders to monitor and enforce compliance with state and local building material management requirements. Support oversight of construction and demolition projects required to demonstrate compliance with State (CALGreen) and local debris‑recovery requirements. Utilize Green Halo software to review Material Reduction and Recovery Plans in partnership with the Department of Building Inspection (DBI) and respond to inquiries by providing technical assistance regarding compliance. Maintain and update databases (e.g., Salesforce) and records; analyze data and report findings; develop data‑use strategies to track information and prepare reports. Support grant and contract proposals, identify funding opportunities, track expenditures, and administer reports. Plan and facilitate education, training, and engagement events, including presentations at commissions and boards of supervisors committees. Develop digital engagement and in‑person outreach campaigns; research and develop campaigns and strategies, track results, and provide recommendations. Prepare written and graphic materials, outreach materials, web content, reports, and presentations; respond to public inquiries and complaints. Supervise and support junior staff, fellows, and interns as needed. Education and Experience Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in planning, coordinating, implementing, analyzing, or evaluating programs or policies in the environmental, community engagement, zero waste, or construction and demolition fields. Additional experience may substitute for the required degree on a year‑for‑year basis (30 semester units or 45 quarter units equal one year). Desirable Qualifications Experience with research, development, implementation, and enforcement of policies supporting reuse of building materials. Experience overseeing grant administration and vendor contracts. Skilled project manager with experience stewarding processes to drive stakeholder engagement and community partnerships. Experience gaining compliance with legislation, particularly solid waste and/or green building requirements. Fluency in Cantonese, Spanish, or other languages commonly spoken in San Francisco.
