Accountant I

Job Description Department of Transportation (DOT) is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining a resilient multi‑modal transportation system. The role supports the Department’s mission to promote accessibility, safety, and equity for all residents and visitors through diligent financial and accounting operations. Essential Functions Manage accounts payable: process invoices, ensure documentation accuracy, route for approval, reconcile vendor accounts, and resolve discrepancies. Perform accounts receivable tasks: assist with grant billing, enter receivables, reconcile receipts, and accept deposits. Conduct internal audits: maintain documentation tracking worksheets, monitor transaction completion, reconcile variances, and verify required grant documentation. Support payroll: review time entries, resolve issues with supervisors, run payroll reports, and meet payroll deadlines. Provide customer service: communicate with vendors, funders, staff, and other stakeholders in person, by phone, online, and in writing. Education / Experience Broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field, typically obtained through a 4‑year college degree (Bachelor’s) or equivalent. Required Experience Minimum six months as a staff accountant. Additional Information & Requirements Valid Driver’s License (Preferred). Work Schedule 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday; 40 hours per week.
