NOTICE OF POSITION OPENING
POSITION TITLE: Labor Relations Specialist
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Manager of Field Operations

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works to promote and achieve the goals and priorities of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA). Works with a team to plan and implement the initiatives of MNA in accordance with Association policies. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Draft, review, negotiate, and administer contracts, ensuring compliance and MNA standards.
• Lead and support contract negotiations in collective bargaining agreements for organized bargaining units;
• Demonstrated ability to research comparable contracts, develop bargaining proposals, and draft contract language and counterproposals in preparation for and during negotiations;
• Background in interpreting collective bargaining agreements and advising union members on contract rights, obligations, and application to workplace situations;
• Monitoring employer practices and policies to ensure ongoing compliance with negotiated agreements and applicable labor law;
• Mediating workplace disputes and applying conflict resolution skills to reach timely, effective solutions for members and bargaining units;
• Maintain accurate records of grievances to ensure proper documentation and reporting.
• Scheduling, coordinating, and communicating grievance meetings with members.
• Organizing members to advance MNA’s position on various contract proposals, grievances, or other strategic campaigns;
• Investigating potential contract violations, conducting fact-finding, and representing nurses throughout the grievance process;
• Answer member questions and concerns regarding their contract and other workplace issues;
• Representing nurses in labor-management committees;
• Member education and training on topics including steward rights and responsibilities, labor and employment law, contract interpretation, grievance procedures, and collective bargaining;
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Field Operations.
• Travel is required, including overnight stays.
• Minnesota residency is required. Working remotely is available upon approval, particularly for those who live in Greater Minnesota.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:   Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Registered Nurses are encouraged to apply. Equivalent work experience will be considered.

Experience:   Demonstrated knowledge of unions, labor relations, and labor law is required. Experience in contract negotiations and contract administration is required. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the health care industry is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to lead and motivate others, are essential. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary. Experience in collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and/or contract administration is strongly preferred. Demonstrated skills in contract interpretation, conflict resolution, and workplace dispute mediation required.

Two years of experience as a union representative (business agent/UniServ consultant) is required.

Salary: Per MNASO Local 1, Unit 2 Contract Agreement. A salary range of $89,814– $101,088, dependent on experience, with generous benefits including defined benefit pension, 401K matching, 100% employer-paid single and low-cost family health insurance coverage, 20 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 3 personal days, along with 12 paid holidays annually.
