OB/GYN - Certified Medical Assistant Team Lead (Bilingual)

Certified Medical Assistant Team Lead
With oversight from the Chief Quality Officer, the Medical Assistant Team Leads are required to perform all duties of a medical assistant, function as the resource person, and work together to provide on-the-floor supervision of departmental staff. The leads maintain department schedules and ensure proper coverage is available to the providers in the department and perform a variety of administrative and patient-related tasks to assure efficient patient and workflow within the practice. They support the department in providing quality care during clinic hours and act as a liaison between management, staff, and other departmental leads. The leads are responsible for training, mentoring, scheduling, and overall supervisory duties for staff within their department. They encourage teamwork and collaboration internally within their department as well as externally with other departments to promote HOPE Clinic's mission, vision, and values.
Major duties and responsibilities include competency and performing in front desk, eligibility and check out procedures as needed; daily and continued communication between Team Leads; when a Team Lead is absent, the other Team Lead will serve as the supervisor for the team including all functions of both Team Leads; works collaboratively to divide the regular work tasks of the Team Leads to accomplish all job functions; provides back up support for the department, which includes all function of a medical assistant; places patients in exam rooms, obtains history and vital signs, and documents in the medical records; assists in the examination and procedures for patients with provider; maintains confidentiality when interacting with patients, families, personnel and public; assists in the supervision of work and performance of clinic staff including reception, medical assistants and other support staff, as instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed; provides treatments as ordered such as aerosol treatments, immunizations, and injections; assesses medical and medical education needs of the patient and provide education as directed by provider; discharges patients giving all patient documents and provider instructions; performs laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as venipuncture, urinalysis, glucose, hemoglobin, and electrocardiogram; provides translation assistance as needed; triages patients in person and on the telephone; answers telephone calls and messages within the same day; provides education and instructions on lab and diagnostic results, medication refills by telephone and in person for patients; keeps patient exam rooms and nursing station stocked with supplies and organized; reviews the providers schedule throughout the day and prior to the start of shift to ensure patient flow; follows-up on no show appointments as directed by providers; works with other team members and managers to implement daily duties and new programs as needed; assesses staffing levels and participates in recruiting and hiring efforts, trains new staff and provides performance reviews as scheduled by policy; works with staff that need additional education and training, counsels staff who need remedial action and follows clinic policy for staff corrections; reports adverse events or incidents and patient feedback/comments to supervisor; hosts regular team meetings to disseminate information, improve team communication and work processes among the team members; participates in performance improvement activities, staff trainings, and weekly team huddles; reports errors or issues promptly to supervisor; maintains security of medical records and patients health information according to HIPAA standards; coordinates the inventory, ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies using appropriate systems; ensures that our patients get the best possible care; assists with other administrative projects and tasks as needed; attends on-site/off-site community engagement activities and on-site/off-site clinic events as needed; performs other duties as assigned to support HOPE Clinic's Mission, Vision and Values.
Qualification requirements include minimum of two years in health education, patient navigation, and/or health clinic patient assistance field preferred; CMA or RMA is required or willingness to obtain within 3 month probationary period; knowledgeable of and maintains HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality; knowledge of Microsoft Office and be able to utilize the Internet; able to use basic office equipment (e.g., computer, copier); strong written and oral communication skills; must be detailed oriented and able to handle multi tasks; detail oriented and team player; excellent customer service skills; must be able to handle multiple tasks, complexity, and diversity of patients; insurance verification, pre-authorizations and specialist referral navigation experience preferred; must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the recommended dosages.
Education and/or experience required includes high school diploma or GED is required; associates degree preferred. Completion of a program of training for Medical Assistants is required. Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
Other skills and abilities include bilingual (Vietnamese, Chinese, Burmese, Arabic, Spanish or other languages with English) is required; above average skills in language ability as well as public speaking and writing; willingness to work in different department and/or travel to satellite sites to provide coverage; must have good transportation and a valid Texas Driver's license.
