Job Description
The IFA Reagent Production Technician manufactures immunofluorescence assay (IFA) reagents, supports laboratory operations, and contributes to applied research projects within a regulated laboratory environment. This role combines hands-on wet lab work, careful documentation, and basic equipment operation to ensure reliable production output and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Manufacture IFA product line reagents on a daily basis, following established protocols and quality standards.
- Maintain adequate levels of tested and approved raw materials required for the production of all reagents, including monitoring inventory and notifying appropriate personnel when supplies are low.
- Perform pilot and bulk testing of reagents with sufficient lead time to meet the production schedule and ensure product reliability.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in accordance with good laboratory practices.
- Create and maintain accurate, neat, and complete testing files and production records for all manufactured reagents.
- Assist in applied research projects as directed by the department, including experimental setup, sample preparation, and data collection.
- Prepare samples and perform routine laboratory procedures using pipettes, glassware, labware, and standard laboratory equipment.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as automated plate washers, plate readers, and pH meters, ensuring proper calibration and basic troubleshooting.
- Read, understand, and follow written directions, safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Apply basic mathematical skills, including performing calculations for dilutions and other routine laboratory computations.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, including preparing routine reports and correspondence related to production and testing activities.
- Follow aseptic techniques and basic microbiology and immunology practices to ensure product integrity and a safe working environment.
- Consistently lift and move materials and equipment up to 25 pounds as needed in support of production activities.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology preferred.
- Science background with hands-on laboratory experience, including academic biology lab experience.
- Basic working knowledge of Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, and aseptic technique.
- Demonstrated experience with sample preparation and pipetting in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to use pipettes, glassware, labware, and standard laboratory equipment safely and accurately.
- Ability to operate and maintain machines such as automated plate washers, plate readers, and pH meters.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and accurately.
- Ability to speak effectively in a laboratory and production environment.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including creating and working with dilutions.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and follow written directions precisely.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to consistently lift up to 25 pounds as part of daily duties.
- Commitment to good laboratory practices to maintain a safe working environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in a production or reagent manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Experience with immunofluorescence assays or similar diagnostic assays is an advantage.
- Familiarity with laboratory documentation practices and maintaining organized testing files.
- Comfort working with automated laboratory equipment and learning new instrumentation as needed.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in both laboratory work and recordkeeping.
- Ability to work effectively within a team-focused laboratory setting and support applied research initiatives.
This role is based in a laboratory production environment focused on the manufacturing and testing of IFA reagents. Standard hours are Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., for a 35-hour work week. The technician works hands-on with biological materials, reagents, and laboratory equipment, including pipettes, glassware, labware, automated plate washers, plate readers, and pH meters. The position requires adherence to good laboratory practices, aseptic techniques, and safety rules to maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility. The role involves standing for portions of the day, performing repetitive pipetting and sample preparation tasks, and lifting up to 25 pounds regularly. Collaboration with laboratory leadership and colleagues is a routine part of the workday, and basic computer use, including Microsoft Office, supports documentation and reporting activities.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
