Job Description:


- Shift: 12-Hour Nights
- Schedule: Every Other Weekend (EOW), First to Float

Unit Highlights:
- NICU Level: III
- Number of Beds: 26
- Patient Ratios:
- 1:2 for most cases
- 1:1 for critical patients

Required Certifications:
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)

Common Diagnoses:
- Premature infants with sepsis
- Surgical cases such as gastroschisis
- Patients on ventilation and nasal CPAP

Experience Required:
- Minimum 3 years of NICU experience
- Proficiency with critical drips:
- Dopamine
- Dobutamine
- Versed
- Fentanyl
- Previous experience in a Level III NICU essential

Charge Nurse Information:
- Charge nurse covers NICU and pediatric units
- Free of assignment for administrative duties

Healthcare Team:
- Neonatologists and Respiratory Therapists available on-site 24/7
- RN's responsible for monitoring telemetry in an open bay area

Equipment Available:
- Oscillators, nasal CPAP, and rare ventilators
- Giraffe incubators and radiant warmers

Shifts & Scheduling:
- 12-hour shifts starting between 7:00 AM - 7:30 AM
- Self-scheduling by seniority, balanced by management

Weekend and Holiday Requirements:
- Every other weekend commitment (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday shifts required: 1 major and 1 minor

Floating Requirements:
- First to float to the Nursery and Pediatrics (sister unit)
- Pediatric unit consists of 12 beds with low acuity patients

Dress Code:
- Navy scrubs required

Orientation Process:
- 3 shifts orientation with a preceptor
- Additional 12 hours in the nursery and pediatric units

Cancellation Policy:
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts for 13-week assignments
- 3 shifts cancellation for assignments shorter than 13 weeks
