Medical Surgical Registered NurseLocation: Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Charleston): 109 Bee St, Charleston, SC 29401 Period of Performance: 3/1/2026 – 2/28/2031 Shift Schedule: 1930-0800: 12 (twelve) hour days shift with alternating weekend shifts; Weekends, weekdays and holidays required. Position/Unit Description: The RN will provide care in an acute care medical/surgical unit. The role encompasses services related to spinal cord injuries, telemetry, orthopedics, medicine, oncology, neurology, acute rehabilitation, general surgery, and post-operative care.Primary ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities: Skills: RN to work on an acute care medical/surgical unit shall be responsible for:Patient assessmentsMedication administrationIV therapyInterdisciplinary team coordinationTelemetry monitoringAdmissions, discharges, and internal and external transfersDelegating to assistive personnelElectronic medical record documentationPatient transportEmergency response procedures.Competency in the areas of:NGT insertionChest tubesTrach careDressing changesMonitor patient condition, report and treat applicable findingsIV insertionsThoracentesisParacentesisLumbar punctureTwelve lead EKGFoley Cather insertion and discontinuationDoppler pressureOrthostatic blood pressureWound therapy: (wound vac), dressing changesCardiopulmonary resuscitationBlood transfusionBlood drawDrug Administration (Bar Code Medication and Administration (BCMA)Bladder irrigationAmong other areas of nursing careMinimum QualificationsRequirements:BLS certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)Unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of ColumbiaExperience: All contract personnel will have a minimum of two-year direct patient care experience within the last three years in the field.
