Medical Assistant Instructor (Part-Time/Adjunct) - Roseville, MI

Job Title Medical Assistant Instructor Department Education Supervisory No Reports To Academic Dean Summary The Instructor is entrusted with imparting the knowledge and skills each student needs to be successful by providing quality delivery of assigned courses while ensuring that all students achieve competency in the course objectives. Instructors evaluate and resolve student questions, issues, and problems, and ensure appropriate action is taken to the satisfaction of the student, the College, and/or regulatory agencies in compliance with policy, procedures, and legal requirements. Instructors are to be motivating, fair and impartial, creative, dedicated, and professional. Essential Functions Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline, selecting and utilizing a variety of approved course materials and teaching methods that address all learning modalities. Assess student learning using appropriate methods and demonstrate effectiveness with strong outcomes in Student Retention, Student Success, and Student Attendance, as measured by the Faculty Development Program. Conduct an engaging classroom lecture and/or lab based on the course outline. Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity to concerns and actively involving students in classroom discussions and/or activities. Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues to ensure successful completion of their course. Contact absentee students by text, email, and/or phone as needed to improve retention. Manage classroom environment through compliance with campus policies including, but not limited to, classroom management, attendance, punctuality, and professionalism. Ensure instructor preparedness before class by listing Instructor Name, Contact Information, Date, Class Name, Day’s Objectives, and Next Session Objectives on the whiteboard. Monitor and prepare supplies and equipment to ensure readiness prior to class, informing appropriate campus personnel when areas requiring attention are discovered. Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in-service meetings and attend commencement sessions when encouraged. Demonstrate professional growth in the subject through membership and participation in educational associations, professional organizations, continuance of education, related business experience, educational research, and awareness of current practices and standards. Attend seminars, conventions, field visits, vendor shows, equipment exhibits, etc., for enrichment opportunities. Support other departments such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services. Maintain compliance with legal and ethical standards for all educational activity. Demonstrate continuous improvement by working within the guidelines of the Faculty Development Program or other criteria such as Success Rate, Retention Rate, Student Attendance Rate, Student Evaluations of Instructor, and Final Exam Pass Rates. Maintain employer relationships through at least annual contacts, including site visits or phone conversations. Knowledge – Skills – Abilities Resourceful problem solving and ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team. Positive attitude, initiative, and creativity with ability to motivate staff. Proficiency with basic office equipment, computers, and computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite. Minimum Qualifications Require a degree, diploma, or certificate in the field taught from a post‑secondary institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and two years’ documented experience in the subject taught, or three years of significant job‑related documented experience for those without specific education in the field. Prior experience teaching is preferred, as applicable. Certifications Required Certification from a recognized certification agency in the field taught must be obtained within 120 days of the first day teaching class at Dorsey Schools and maintained according to the certification agency guidelines. Working / Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Evening or weekend hours, if necessary, to meet deadlines and meet with prospective students.
