POSITION DESCRIPTION

ICU Nocturnist

Our organization is actively seeking candidates for the role of ICU Nocturnist. This facility serves as a prominent teaching location for a major university, and all physicians within the department of medicine hold a joint appointment there. The hospital features 100 beds, with around 50% occupied by medical patients at any given time. Ideal applicants will be outstanding clinicians who are enthusiastic about inpatient medicine, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, have a desire to collaborate with trainees, and are dedicated to delivering exceptional care to our Veterans.

Key Responsibilities:

• Admit patients to the ICU and provide care for those already in the unit.
• Collaborate with overnight medicine residents to admit patients to the wards and assist in covering medical ward patients.
• Act as the code blue leader and respond to rapid response team calls.
• Triage all requests for transfers to the ICU and wards.

The typical night shift sees an average of 2 ICU admissions per week, with a census of 5-7 patients in the ICU. Ward admissions are shared with the night medicine resident, averaging 1-2 per person each night. The position requires 13 shifts per month, from 7 PM to 7 AM.

Qualifications:

• Possession of an MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine.
• Membership in the Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep/Allergy Medicine section.
• Additional training in Pulmonary or Critical Care Medicine is preferred but not mandatory.
• A valid medical license in the United States.
• Eligibility for appointment at the VA is required.

Compensation:

The base salary for this position ranges from $110,500 to $333,700. This role includes participation in the health sciences compensation plan, which allows for the possibility of additional earnings.
