Schedule & Hours Shift: Various Shifts Available 1st Shift: 7 am – 3:30 pm 2nd Shift: 2:30 pm – 11 pm 3rd Shift: 11 pm – 7:30 am Hours per week: Varied – Per Diem Benefits Status: Not Eligible Department: Environmental Services Job Description The Environmental Services Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. This role is primarily responsible for the care, cleaning, and maintenance of hard and soft flooring, walls, windows, ceilings, and specialized equipment. The technician also supports waste transport, textile handling, and event set‑ups to ensure regulatory compliance, infection prevention, and patient satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Maintain floors by sweeping, wet/dry mopping, burnishing, stripping, refinishing, scrubbing, and extracting carpet. Operate floor care equipment (e.g., burnishers, auto scrubbers, extractors) safely and in compliance with hospital standards. Follow all safety and infection prevention protocols, including correct dilution and use of cleaning and disinfectant solutions per Safety Data Sheets (SOS). Clean windows, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, vents, and other high/low surfaces. Change and install cubicle curtains and drapes as scheduled or upon request. Transport soiled linens and textiles to the loading dock for pickup; return empty carts to designated locations. Remove general and regulated waste from designated areas and transport to compactors. Clean, sanitize, and maintain waste transport carts and collection bins. Collect recyclables and dispose of them in proper containers. Perform set-up and breakdown of rooms for meetings and hospital events. Respond to emergency spills and floor care needs promptly. Support terminal cleaning processes in collaboration with the EVS team as needed. Assist with product evaluations and recommendations for floor care equipment and supplies. Participate in EVS staff meetings, annual competencies, and mandatory trainings. Provide backup support for general housekeeping duties as directed. Job Requirements High School Diploma or GED preferred. 1–2 years of experience in floor care or healthcare housekeeping. Completion of in‑service training and floor care competency checklist. Understanding of floor care chemicals, safety protocols, and infection control. Ability to safely operate and maintain powered cleaning equipment. Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and manage time. Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and hospital policies/procedures. May work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
