Paralegal

Works under the direction of a Supervisory Legal Assistant to review files and documents for a variety of criminal or civil cases to become familiar with the issues and identify pertinent material.

• Establishes and maintains an effective system of compiling, indexing, and organizing this information and its sources.

• Participates and assists in preparation for trial by compiling, organizing, and indexing various trial documents. Marks and identifies trial documents and drafts a list of documents offered at trial.

• Range of legal tasks include, but are not limited to copying, mailing, closing files, maintaining pleadings and maintaining a calendar system for assigned attorneys which accurately keeps track of due dates for pleading, hearings, and court appearances and other document and meeting deadlines.

• Maintain electronic case files which are organized, current, accessible, and retrievable and mains integrity of data inputted into the case management system.

• Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks.

• Review and summarize information in prescribed format on case precedent and decisions.

• Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks.

• Assists AUSAs by preparing, scheduling, reviewing and organizing discovery, notifying, and managing witnesses. Aids in organizing evidence for production as discovery and for use in trial.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

• Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.? One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.

• Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful

• Automated litigation support experience valued. Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.

• Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

• Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

• Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

*Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer's cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes. Any remaining health and welfare monies after all applicable deductions would be cashed out to the employee on a 1 pay period lag.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

Compensation Details:

$19.81
