SMT PCB Test Engineer

Detailed Description A PCB Test Engineer ensures printed circuit boards meet design, quality, and functionality standards before mass production by developing, implementing, and optimizing test procedures. They create test fixtures, diagnose faults, and use tools like oscilloscopes and ICT, making them essential for identifying failures in the manufacturing process. Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following: Support development of production test strategies based on product design specification Test Development: Design and implement test strategies, including In-Circuit Testing (ICT), Functionality Testing, Boundary Scan, and Flying Probe. Debugging & Troubleshooting: Debug PCB failures using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and high-voltage power supplies to identify root causes. Process Optimization: Improve PCB test coverage and manufacturing cycle times to enhance yields. Documentation: Create detailed test plans, reports, and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards. Collaboration: Work with design teams to improve the testability of new PCB designs. Develop test plans and requirements for customer products including both hardware and software elements. Lead procurement, qualification, and installation support for manufacturing for a large customer. Be accountable for the test process optimization with a focus on productivity improvements to cycle time and yield within a CFT or across a large equipment set serving multiple customers. Provide project leadership, including management of and communication with team members, suppliers for comprehensive test deployments including structural, functional, system, stress and final test applications for a large customer. Support sales process by providing support to the quoting process. Work with design to enhance solutions with feedback from product testability, test coverage, diagnosability, reparability, firmware/diagnostics and user experience. Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations. Lead and drive complex problems related to product yield or test performance. Support sales process by providing support to the quoting process. Project Management Ability to manage/lead complex, multiple line engineering projects that may also involve other functions. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and people aspects of the project. Able to create a project/change management plan and ensure that the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget. Ability to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans. Financial Acumen / Business Planning Ability to create financial plans for your projects, align them internally with your line of management and other functions and externally if needed. Create project plans, profitability calculations, risk and sensitivity analysis, able to recognize barriers and mitigate profitability risks. Fully knowledgeable about internal and external financial reporting, accounting and tax requirements relevant to your area of expertise. Software/Programming: Proficiency in software such as LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, or C/C++. Physical Demands Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required. Typical Experience 4 to 6 years. Experience: Generally 1-3 years of experience in hardware testing, manufacturing, or QA roles, often requiring soldering skills (SMD). Typical Education Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related field or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
