Position Summary
The Calendar Clerk supports a high-volume employment class action practice by maintaining the department calendar and ensuring state and federal court deadlines are calculated, entered, monitored, and adjusted accurately. The role requires careful interpretation of court rules and judicial orders, disciplined docketing, and consistent coordination with a fast-paced legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the department calendar system and calculate court-related deadlines for state and federal matters.
- Track legal, court, and filing deadlines across a high-volume caseload.
- Apply local court rules, procedures, and filing timelines when calendaring matters.
- Read court and judicial orders and calendar relevant dates, including manual adjustments required by judge-specific rules.
- Docket hearings, discovery deadlines, and information related to court filings.
- Calendar depositions, mediations, court appearances, and related litigation events.
- Review calendar entries for accuracy and follow through on time-sensitive changes.
- Collaborate with attorneys and legal support professionals in the downtown Los Angeles office.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated legal calendaring or docketing experience involving court and filing deadlines.
- Working knowledge of state and federal court rules, procedures, and deadline calculation.
- Ability to read court and judicial orders and identify relevant calendaring dates.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurately in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years of calendaring experience in employment law.
- Experience with Milana, Clio, Filevine, or comparable legal calendaring and case-management software.
- Experience adjusting deadlines based on judge-specific rules.
- Spanish language proficiency.
