STAFF AIR POLLUTION SPECIALIST

Staff Air Pollution Specialist State Air Resources Board Salary: $10,521.00 – $13,173.00 per month Location options: Sacramento or Riverside County, California Working Conditions Hybrid telework may be available depending on operational needs. Some in‑person attendance is required. Employees residing in California that meet CalEPA telework eligibility criteria may be eligible for telework. Responsibilities The incumbent will work independently under the guidance of the Section Manager to lead big data‑driven research programs focused on emissions and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction. Key duties include: Initiating innovative research solutions for implementable and cost‑effective regulatory and policy options. Producing clear and concise research summaries and technical papers, including memos, letters, white papers, journal articles, and conference presentations. Contributing to the Section’s scientific and technical foundation and supporting division management. Qualifications Advanced degree in environmental science, atmospheric science, engineering, data science, or related field. Experience with large dataset and database analyses, computer programming, and statistical methods related to mobile source emissions. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex findings clearly in writing and orally. Knowledge of CARB programs and policies concerning on‑road and off‑road mobile sources. Excellent planning and management skills for major research projects. Desirable Qualifications Expert‑level skills in data mining, machine learning, or related analytical techniques. Experience with vehicle emissions and energy use research, including non‑exhaust emissions and zero‑emission vehicle technologies. Strong collaborative and stakeholder engagement abilities.
