Cobalt Cattle pen riders decide when cattle need extra care and ensure our cattle are humanely raised with respect and empathy. Feed Truck Driver Providers of nourishment and sustenance necessary for growth, Cobalt Cattle feed truck drivers are responsible for safe and efficient feed delivery to our animals. Possessing a keen attention to detail and technical dexterity, they provide precise feed rations to cattle exactly when and where it is needed. Mill Operator Dedicated to high standards of quality nutrition, Cobalt Cattle mill operators ensure our cattle receive a diet that promotes healthy growth. They keep ingredients moving from storage to the mill, evaluate ingredient quality and observe production output for consistency. Mill operators manage mill feed outputs to allow our cattle the best inputs for humane, sustainable growth. Animal Health Specialist With gentle hands and precise detail, Cobalt Cattle animal health specialists care for sick cattle and maintain medical records so every animal has a chance to recover and perform. They maintain medical supplies and communicate across teams so everyone can champion cattle care. Yard Maintenance The glue that keeps Cobalt Cattle feedyards operating at full potential. Our yard maintenance team are hands‑on problem solvers who maintain the feedyards and their equipment so that all Cobalt Cattle feedyards are Beef Quality Assurance‑compliant. They are team players and champions of a safe and healthy work environment for all. Management Trainee With an insatiable hunger to learn and refine their skills, trainees have the opportunity to work across departments, touching all aspects of cattle management. Management trainees get experience in receiving, pen riding, doctoring, processing and milling. All the while, honing their management and animal husbandry skills to become future leaders at Cobalt Cattle. Feed Learn and operate a feed truck, deliver feed to the correct pens, efficiently to ensure proper feeding times are met. Learn how to monitor feed intakes, bunk conditions, cattle behavior to feed presentation and schedule ration step‑up programs, based on variables such as day son feed, gender, weather, breed, etc. Assist the feed callers with reviewing the daily agenda for pen ships, moves, and transfers along with ensuring newly received and re‑implanted cattle are fed in a timely manner by coordinating with the cattle department. Processing and Receiving Develop understanding and implement proper animal handling when moving cattle from receiving pens to working area and to home pens. Assist with the review and preparation of daily agenda for cattle movements. Assist with the preparation of receiving records for input into cattle management system, distribution of processing orders, tags and other necessary products required for each lot. Learn and understand the protocols for each class of cattle such as breed, gender, and origin. Animal health Learn and understand the operations in the hospitals, completing hospital pen rotations, treating sick cattle based on protocols, and ensuring cattle return home timely. Learn and understand how to import individual cattle treatments into cattle management system. Develop the skills to identify sick cattle and make the necessary pulls from home pens. Mill Learn how to safely operate equipment, front end loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, etc. Learn to accurately batch feed in a timely manner. Develop and understand the equipment required to process grain and ensure proper milling is performed. Assist with performing quality control on all incoming feed ingredients and monitor commodity inventories. Assist with the preparation and completion of preventative maintenance schedules. Yard Develop an understanding of all equipment required to maintain feed yard facilities, front end loads, tractors with implements, mowers etc. Assist with the yard repairs and housekeeping of pens, bunk pads, roads and alleys, fences, water tanks, etc. Assist with preparation and completion of preventative maintenance schedules. Safety Ensure compliance with all OSHA/ Safety procedures, rules and regulations. Assist in the preparation of monthly safety meetings and safety committee meetings. Other Communicate issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel. Continuously learn and develop leadership skills. Adaptability – Adapt to changes in the work environment. Attendance/ Punctuality – is consistently at work and on time. Dependability – Follow instructions, respond to management direction; keep commitments; complete tasks on time or notify appropriate person with an alternate plan. Technical Skills – Strive to continuously build knowledge and skills. Supervisory responsibilities This position is focused on developing supervisory and leadership skills, in addition to learning feedyard operations. Regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Frequently required to talk or hear. Required to reach with hands and arms. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Regularly required to work 10-12 hours per day. Frequently required to climb or maneuver into equipment or around facilities. Less than 10%. Required education and experience Bachelor’s degree, Agriculture or Business related preferred, or relevant industry experience.
