Corrections Health Mental Health Consultant ( Plus 10% Hourly Premium)

Mental Health Consultant – Corrections Health Department: Health Department – Correctional Health Facilities (Multnomah County Detention Center and Juvenile Detention Center). Pay: $41.45 - $50.97 per hour. Closing date: July 15, 2026. Responsibilities Provide direct services of assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, case management and discharge planning for the mentally ill client population in jail. Offer indirect services including case consultation, group facilitation, education, research and selected administrative and patient-care duties. Receive clients on a referred, emergent or follow-up basis; conduct initial psychiatric/psychological work-up; formulate assessment and treatment plan using DSM-5 criteria. Deliver crisis intervention, counseling and client education, including orientation to community resources. Accurately document client care through electronic medical records and SOAP charting. Manage a large caseload and interface with providers and support staff. Use de-escalation techniques to defuse potentially violent or aggressive situations. Participate actively in the Mental Health Team, consulting with providers, nurses, and monitoring client response. Attend court proceedings when subpoenaed to explain client’s mental health status. Work closely with Correction Deputies and Juvenile Custody Support Specialists in day-to-day client interactions. Qualifications Certified Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-C) credential from the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) or an independent Oregon license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PsyD, etc.). Current CPR/BLS certification (valid upon hire). Background investigation (including fingerprinting) required; employment contingent on passing background check. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience as a master’s level clinician in a fast-paced clinical setting providing individual and group psychotherapy, diagnostic assessment and treatment. Independent licensure in Oregon (e.g., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist). Experience in a corrections or other secure setting. Experience with severe mental illness, risk assessment and crisis intervention. Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling desirable.
