About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer and a pivotal member of the executive leadership team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all legal affairs in a highly regulated, multi-site, and multi-state environment. This role demands a leader with deep expertise in real estate, employment law, commercial contracts, and M&A transactions, who can provide pragmatic, business-minded counsel at a fast pace. Key responsibilities include legal program development, risk assessment, and enterprise risk management, as well as owning the legal strategy for the company's real estate portfolio, transactions, and M&A activities. The General Counsel will also be tasked with managing a wide range of commercial agreements, advising on multi-state employment matters, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should hold a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and have an active bar membership in good standing. A minimum of 12 years of progressive legal experience, with a strong preference for those with in-house leadership experience, is required. The ideal candidate will have a substantial background in real estate, a proven track record in a regulated industry, and experience in multi-state compliance. Additionally, a strong background in employment law, commercial contracting, and M&A support is essential. Experience in a private equity-backed company or with investor-backed clients is also highly valued. The role demands a strategic thinker who can build and lead a legal function, develop processes, and leverage technology to serve the business efficiently.
