Job Title: Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Profession: RN Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Preferred acute care facility experience License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Must-Have: EPIC experience Description: The registered professional nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Nursing care is prescribed based on a nursing process that is consistent with the medical plan of care. Input from the patient and significant others is considered in this process. Collaboration occurs with physicians and other members of the health care team. The nurse coordinates the delivery of patient care to individuals of all ages, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care. Delegation of certain aspects of patient care delivery to other nursing staff is based on their current clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Education and Work Experience: A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Licenses and certifications required include Registered Nurse (RN) licensure and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at the time of hire. Essential Functions: The nurse utilizes the nursing process to assess patients and design an individualized plan of care. Implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of the plan occur based on the patient's response to care and progress towards established goals. Modifications to the plan are made as necessary. The nurse considers age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs when delivering patient care. Collaboration with other disciplines is essential to formulate the plan of care for assigned patients. Knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages is applied to the delivery of care. Proper knowledge of pharmacology is utilized when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education is provided throughout all phases of care delivery to promote compliance and alleviate apprehension. Emergency patient situations or internal/external disasters are efficiently managed by following established protocols. The nurse demonstrates responsibility and accountability for problem solving and clinical decision-making. Ensuring continuity of care involves promptly processing and following through on physician orders. Prioritization in providing patient care is essential. Advocacy for patients’ rights is a crucial part of nursing responsibilities. Proper delegation to nursing assistants and student nurses is done based on their clinical competence. The nurse maintains communication skills and utilizes appropriate resources for effective communication. Documentation of assessments, interventions, and care provided is required for all assigned patients. Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies and procedures. Emergency procedures, such as CPR, are executed while assessing patient responses. Safe use of medical equipment is demonstrated while ensuring patient comfort. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.
