CNC Setup Machinist

The CNC Setup Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating a CNC Mill to produce high-precision components. The position requires advanced machining knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot complex machining and tooling challenges in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Duties:

• Set up, program (or edit), and operate a CNC Mill
• Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and job specifications to determine machining approach
• Develop and optimize machining processes, including feeds, speeds, tooling selection, fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, etc.
• Perform first-piece inspections and in-process checks using precision measuring instruments
• Hold tight tolerances (as close as.0005") and ensure all parts meet quality standards
• Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, tooling failures, and equipment malfunctions
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce scrap, and optimize cycle times
• Maintain equipment through routine preventive maintenance and proper care
• Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards

What you need to be successful:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining experience operating a CNC mill, including setup and troubleshooting
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including GD&T interpretation
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, etc.)
• Experience holding tight tolerances in a production or job shop environment
• High level of organization and attention to detail
• Ability to load and run programs
• Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, etc.)
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems
• Forklift certification
