CNC Setup Machinist

CNC Setup Machinist The CNC Setup Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating a CNC Mill to produce high-precision components. The position requires advanced machining knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot complex machining and tooling challenges in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Job Duties: Set up, program (or edit), and operate a CNC Mill Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and job specifications to determine machining approach Develop and optimize machining processes, including feeds, speeds, tooling selection, fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, etc. Perform first-piece inspections and in-process checks using precision measuring instruments Hold tight tolerances (as close as.0005") and ensure all parts meet quality standards Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, tooling failures, and equipment malfunctions Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce scrap, and optimize cycle times Maintain equipment through routine preventive maintenance and proper care Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards What you need to be successful: High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining experience operating a CNC mill, including setup and troubleshooting Strong blueprint reading skills, including GD&T interpretation Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, etc.) Experience holding tight tolerances in a production or job shop environment High level of organization and attention to detail Ability to load and run programs Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, etc.) Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems Forklift certification Ajax Tocco Magnethermic provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
