DSHS Physician 3 We are seeking a physician to join the team at Fircrest School/Residential Habilitation Center (RHC), located in Shoreline, Washington. This role provides compassionate, detailed primary care to adults with intellectual, developmental, behavioral, and medical challenges. Responsibilities Provide medical care to clients with intellectual disabilities in the Residential Habilitation Center. Manage a caseload of approximately 50 clients, attending to acute care concerns and ongoing chronic condition management. Perform comprehensive physical exams and healthcare assessments upon admission, annually, and upon discharge. Evaluate patients for pre‑operative surgery and supervise post‑operative care when they return to the facility. Conduct rounds on living units, the Respite Care Unit, and the clinic to examine patients and ensure care aligns with current medical standards. Maintain appropriate documentation in the electronic health/medical records system (EHR/EMR) and paper records when required. Coordinate care with nurses, psychologists, clinical pharmacists, and other ancillary health professionals, including visiting consultants and established referral bases. Communicate with patients, families, guardians, consultants, and interdisciplinary teams to discuss treatment plans and progress. Participate in shared phone/call duties on weeknights and weekends, providing remote clinical support without required hands‑on presence after hours. Work the standard weekday schedule of five 8‑hour days, with flexibility for on‑call evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Qualifications Skill in the principles and standards of modern medicine and surgery. Make rounds on living units, examine patients and maintain standards of care. Maintain records and make reports evaluating progress of clients. Examine, diagnose, and treat physical and mental illness. Analyze laboratory and x‑ray reports. Direct and coordinate work between medical and nursing staff. Relate and explain medical and psychological information to staff, parents, guardians, and clients in understandable language. Establish and maintain effective professional and working relationships with individual practitioners, medical, paramedical and other organizations, other staff members from a variety of disciplines, parents and guardians. Comprehend and communicate effectively on all issues related to client care. Interact, plan, consult with, and make recommendations to the Interdisciplinary Team. Must be able to communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the role. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment Maintain a valid license to practice medicine and surgery in the state of Washington. Annual tuberculosis (TB) screening. Successful completion of Therapeutic Options training. Maintain CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens certification. This role has been designated as emergent under the DSHS Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. The incumbent is directly responsible for delivery of DSHS Vital Services and for understanding the local emergency management plan. During a recognized emergency, duties may differ and will be temporary until normal operations resume. During a recognized emergency/disaster: Report for duty on short notice for a specified timeframe; Report for duty outside of normally scheduled work hours and workdays; Report to a duty station that is different from the official duty station; Perform work tasks outside the normal scope of duties reflected in this ad. Working Environment Work in a 24/7 residential habilitation center as a long‑term care facility serving people with a variety of disabilities. Provide clinical care to individuals with intellectual or developmental disability, who may exhibit challenging behaviors including aggression and/or community protection orders. Understand and follow federal CMS regulations regarding client care and client rights, differentiated between ICF and NF. Provide physical support and interventions for clients using program‑approved methods, including assistance with moving or transferring. Safely intervene to protect clients from harm to themselves or others per agency policies and procedures. Potential exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and hazardous materials; use personal protective equipment per policies. May work in any Fircrest living unit/cottage and be required to work limited, on‑call evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Hold a valid driver's license when operating a state or privately‑owned vehicle on official state business. Who Should Apply?
