DSHS Physician 3 Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is seeking a physician to join the team at Fircrest School/Residential Habilitation Center (RHC). Description Located in Shoreline, Washington, Fircrest RHC provides residential care for adults with a variety of disabilities, including intellectual, developmental, behavioral, and medical challenges. The focus is on quality primary care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in both an intermediate care facility (ICF) and a nursing facility (NF). Some Of What You Will Do Provide medical care to clients with intellectual disabilities in the RHC. Maintain a caseload of approximately 50 clients, addressing acute care concerns and managing chronic conditions. Perform comprehensive physical exams and health assessments upon admission, annually, and upon discharge. Evaluate patients for pre‑operative surgery and supervise post‑operative care when patients return to the facility. Make rounds on living units, the Respite Care Unit, and the Clinic to examine patients. Provide medical care following current standards of medical practice and maintain documentation in an electronic health/medical records system (EHR/EMR). Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, psychologists, clinical pharmacists, and other ancillary health professionals. Coordinate care with visiting consultants and an established referral base, including in‑person and virtual interactions. Work weekday 8‑hour days with shared phone/call duties on weeknights and weekends; no required on‑site presence after hours. Utilize support staff to develop skills in general, geriatric, and psychiatric medical care. What We’re Looking For Skill in modern medical and surgical principles and standards. Experience making rounds on living units and maintaining standards of care. Ability to maintain accurate records and report on client progress. Proficiency in diagnosing and treating physical and mental illnesses. Ability to analyze laboratory and X‑ray reports. Experience coordinating work between medical and nursing staff. Strong communication skills with staff, parents, guardians, and clients. Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external practitioners. Effective communication with management and peers as required. Special Requirements And/or Conditions Of Employment Maintain a valid license to practice medicine and surgery in Washington State. Annual tuberculosis (TB) screening. Successful completion of Therapeutic Options training. Maintain CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens certification. Emergency duties under the DSHS Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, including short‑notice duty, off‑normal hours, alternate duty stations, and tasks outside normal scope. Working Environment 24/7 residential habilitation center serving individuals with intellectual, developmental, or dual diagnoses. Clients may exhibit challenging behaviors; staff must be trained in safe physical interventions. Understanding of CMS regulations regarding client care and rights across ICF and NF. Potential exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and hazardous materials; use of appropriate PPE required. Work may involve limited, on‑call evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Maintain a valid driver’s license for official state business vehicle use.
