Associate Attorney

Junior Family Law Attorney

We are seeking a Junior Family Law Attorney to support a busy family law practice. The successful candidate will assist senior attorneys in representing clients in divorce, child custody, child support, and related domestic matters. This role combines client counseling, document drafting, negotiation, and courtroom exposure, providing an opportunity to develop practical skills as a junior associate in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of family law matters under the supervision of senior attorneys, including divorce, child custody, and child support cases.
• Conduct client intakes, gather facts, explain legal options, and maintain regular client communication with sensitivity and professionalism.
• Draft pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, parenting plans, financial affidavits, and other litigation and transactional documents.
• Perform legal research and prepare memoranda on family law issues, statutes, rules, and recent case law.
• Prepare for hearings and trials: organize evidence, draft pretrial submissions, and appear in court, mediation, or settlement conferences as authorized.
• Negotiate settlements and participate in mediation to resolve disputes efficiently and in clients' best interests.
• Maintain accurate case files, manage deadlines, calendaring, and timely billing and time entries in the firm’s practice management system.
• Collaborate with colleagues, paralegals, and support staff to develop case strategy and ensure high-quality client service.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership or eligibility to be admitted in the jurisdiction.
• 0-3 years of experience in family law preferred; experience as a junior associate or in a family law setting is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with divorce, child support, custody, and related family law processes and procedures.
• Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical skills; strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to counsel clients compassionately and advocate effectively in negotiations and hearings.
• Demonstrated experience or interest in working as a family attorney or junior associate handling family matters.
• Comfortable with courtroom appearances and alternate dispute resolution, including mediation.
• Proficiency with legal practice management software and common office tools (e.g., Microsoft Office). Spanish or other second language proficiency a plus.
