Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months PCU experience License: Valid RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General PCU skillset - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Trach care - PIV starts - Chest tube management - NGT placement - Drain/tube management - PCA pumps - Medication management for cardiac drips, Heparin, Insulin, blood products, IVF Description: This position requires a registered nurse specializing in progressive care. The unit consists of 10 MedSurg and 10 Progressive Care beds. The patient population includes those with heart failure, chest pain, suspected strokes, general medical issues, sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, DKA, and interventional patients with titratable drips. Patient ratios are 1:5-6 for MedSurg and 1:3-4 for PCU. Support staff includes CNAs, a receptionist, charge nurses, and phlebotomy. An IV/VAT team is available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalists and intensivists are also available 24/7 in the unit. Telemetry monitoring is not performed by techs. Traveling nurses may need to float to other units and facilities as required. Weekend rotation is every other weekend with no call expected. Travelers will work 75% of holidays. Request time off can be approved for up to six days, excluding holidays. The schedule cycle is every six weeks. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork. Scrubs are navy in color.
