The Atlantic is seeking an audio producer to join our podcast team. This position is an opportunity to be part of a growing department within a distinguished media operation and to develop and deliver clever and thoughtful cultural journalism. This producer will be expected to work collaboratively as well as to act independently and take initiative.The right candidate will be skilled at identifying and finding ways into big ideas, and able to work quickly and efficiently to bring them to life in audio.The role will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work.Responsibilities will include:Brainstorm, pitch and develop new podcast episodes and seasonsIdentify great guests (e.g., academics, scholars, researchers, authors, etc.),Conduct pre-interviews and prep documents for hostsCoordinate studio bookings and facilitate host studio recordingsRecord discussions with hostsScript episodes and produce article pagesEdit, layup, and score audio episodes using tools including Riverside, Descript, and ProTools.Work with the Senior Producer to coach on-mic talentWork closely with the Senior Producer and Executive Producer to manage production calendars and assign tasks to hostsQualifications of the ideal candidate:5+ years experience in audio journalismImpeccable news judgment and an eye for argument and stylish executionFluency with Pro-tools (work samples requested)Experience working in a recording studioOpenness to a wide variety of views and perspectivesA collaborative spirit, and the ability to communicate effectivelyExperience on-mic is a plusSalary minimum: $85,000; Salary maximum: $115,000This position is based at The Atlantic’s office in Washington, D.C.This is a Guild position.About The Atlantic:The Atlantic has, for more than 160 years, advanced ideas that matter and sparked global conversation on the most important issues of our time.
