Research Assistant - Unmasked

Overview Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking an Unmasked Research Assistant to join our innovative team with the mission of Fighting Blindness for the World to See. The role is responsible for assisting in research patient visits following ICH‑GCP guidelines, the IRB‑approved study protocol, and the manual of procedures. This position will be based at our Westover location. The successful candidate will support research department hours from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, aligning schedules with provider clinics, patient appointments and surgery schedules. Starting pay rate is $19.00 per hour and is eligible for overtime. Responsibilities Conduct safe and appropriate aseptic and sterile field techniques. Assist the coordinator in monitoring subject flow and managing subject care. Observe, assist, collect, and record all necessary data during study visits (Phase 2 & 3, no gene therapy). Ensure the treatment room is fully stocked with ancillary supplies each day. Explain treatment processes and procedures to study subjects. Set up, prepare subjects, and assist in the administration of treatment as required by protocol and pharmacy/procedure manual. Promptly report treatment‑related adverse events, including medication errors, to the appropriate unmasked RA (Level II/III preferred). Assist in the collection of aqueous humor samples for analysis. Perform intraocular pressure checks after injections. Perform post‑treatment procedures (finger count, hand motion, light perception). Monitor on‑site temperature for all equipment and document daily logs when applicable. Calibrate tonopen daily. Perform other duties as assigned. Obtain any required sponsor training and/or certifications. Ensure all instruments used by the UM team are accounted for and properly sterilized. Qualifications Demonstrated working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications. Excellent organizational skills and ability to independently manage workflow. Meticulous attention to detail. Initiative and the ability to prioritize quickly. High‑level critical‑thinking skills. Cooperation with supervisory staff, physicians, peers, external customers, and patients in a positive, energetic, and professional manner. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including multi‑tasking. Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent, with 3 years of ophthalmology experience. College degree preferred. Physical Demands Must be able to stand for long periods. Must be able to write. Must be able to hold arms at shoulder height. Must be able to communicate via telephone. Must have manual dexterity to work with ophthalmic equipment.
