Bus Aide

Chambersburg Area School District is seeking a Bus Aide to ensure the safety and well-being of students while they are being transported to and from school.

Essential Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid PA Driver's License and safe driving record.
• $2.00/hour differential provided if employee has a CDL license with an "S" endorsement
• Experience working with children, especially in a school or transportation setting preferred.
• Experience working with children with special needs.
• Bilingual and bicultural expertise is an asset

Essential Functions:

• Ability to assist students with boarding and disembarking when necessary
• Ability to interact clearly and effectively with students, parents and school staff
• Ensures students medical equipment and wheelchairs are properly handled and secured
• Assists students in and out of car seats, when necessary. Ensures seat belts are properly fastened in vehicles equipped with seat belts
• Must be patient and understanding, especially when working with younger children and those with special needs.
• Ability to lift or assist students with disabilities, if necessary, and remain alert during the entire bus ride
• Ability to handle emergencies or conflict situations calmly and efficiently
• Ensure the safety and security of all passengers by enforcing appropriate behavior during transport
• Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle
• Keep records of daily routes, students transported, and any incidents or issues
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:

• School Year, Non-exempt Position
• Compensation as per the Agreement between Transportation Personnel and the Chambersburg Area School District

Evaluation:

Performance of the Transportation Bus Aide will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Transportation in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations of support employees.
