About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 48 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Required Must-Have: Surgical experience preferred, post-operative care experience, early ambulation experience, open to first-time travelers. Description: Unit has 30 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urological procedures, and abdominal surgeries. Patients may also include bariatric cases, medical overflow, and those requiring hemo hemovacs and JP drains. Colostomy patients are frequently seen. No GYN cases are handled. Charge nurse is present on each shift, with the charge nurse occasionally taking a low acuity assignment at night. There is a patient care technician for every 12 patients. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Occasional drips include heparin, PCA pump, and TPN. Respiratory therapists handle the treatments and are present on the unit. Remote telemetry devices are available, and a monitoring technician interprets readings. RNs are not required to read strips. Shifts are 0700-1930 and 1900-0730. The manager creates the schedule. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, with holiday requirements as needed. RNs may float to medical and telemetry areas. Bedside shift report is an expectation. There is a close-knit and positive culture on the unit. Additional time off requests should be submitted upfront. Four shifts can be canceled per contract, or three shifts for contracts under 13 weeks. Charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Trauma Level is 2. Care setting is acute. Shifts rotation will not exceed once weekly if rotating between day and night. Block scheduling will be considered based on unit needs.
