The Paralegal, under the direct supervision of the General Counsel, will assist in serving as a resource to support the Board’s goals and objectives. Paralegal assistance shall include contract review, managing litigation documents, reducing risk to the Board, promulgating regulations, responding to records requests, and responding to constituent complaints.
Responsibilities, duties, and activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:Public Records Requests and Constituent Complaints
Responds to routine as well as complex requests for public records under F.S. Chapter 119. Collaborates with various offices on complex, sensitive, and/or high-profile requests that may involve significant media interest/scrutiny. Communicates clearly and effectively with both Board Office staff and the general public about the public records process.
Reviews responsive materials for public records requests under F.S. Chapter 119 and applicable federal laws and makes appropriate redactions. Responds in a timely manner to requesters and effectively manages, tracks, and provides periodic updates on a large volume of requests.
If requested by the General Counsel, conducts training for Board Office staff on the Public Records Act, individual records requests, and the relevant policies and procedures. Advises offices on specific state and federal exemptions and best practices. Tracks legal updates to federal and state public records laws. Works as a liaison with the Records Management Liaison Officer.
Reviews, analyzes, and prepares responses to constituent complaints, as assigned by the General Counsel.
Litigation
Coordinate with outside counsel to assemble document production.
Gathers, organizes, and produces documents responsive to subpoenas and/or discovery requests in both federal and state courts. Redacts according to the appropriate rules of civil procedure and/or applicable privacy laws. Conducts research on the legal sufficiency of subpoenas and related authorizations/releases.
Follow up with counsel on outstanding discovery requests, hearing outcomes, and Court Orders, and update discovery responses as additional information is requested.
Assists in identifying critical legal and statutory issues of the disputes.
Organizes and maintains electronic litigation case files. Calendars litigation deadlines and reminders. Assists with scheduling witness interviews, meetings, and depositions.

Assists the General Counsel in managing the regulation promulgation process including, advising staff of timelines, preparation of notices, posting of notifications, coordinating with the General Counsel regarding agenda items/timelines, vetting of regulations, and finalizing regulations.
Receives, reviews, and analyzes contracts for purchases of goods and services. Triages non-standard contracts to conform to statutory and other obligations. Tracks document development, execution, expiratory renewal dates and other related information.
Drafts, prepares, and processes legal correspondence for attorney review.
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Paralegal certificate required
Preferred Requirements
Knowledge or experience in the State University System or other state agencies in Florida
Experience handling public records requests
Experience with State of Florida record retention procedures and requirements

Hiring Range
Salary range $50,000 - $65,000, based on qualifications and experience.
