Area of Expertise: Fundraising

Overview:

The Board will support the work of YourPassion1st and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Founder and Chief Executive officer (CEO), & Chief Innovation & Engagement Officer (CIEO), the Board-CEO/CIEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about YourPassion1st’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

Leadership, Governance & Oversight:

• Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO as s/he develops and implements YourPassion1st’s strategic plan
• Review outcomes and metrics created by YourPassion1st for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
• Approve YourPassion1st annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
• Assist the CEO and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
• Partner with the CEO and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
• Serve on committees or task forces or on special assignments
• Represent YourPassion1st to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
• Ensure YourPassion1st’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities YourPassion1st serves

Fundraising Responsibilities:

YourPassion1st Board Members will consider a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that YourPassion1st can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, YourPassion1st expects to have 100% of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

Objective Of This Role:

• Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work
• Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers
• Spot new fundraising/grant opportunities
• Plan fundraising initiatives to help the organization meet financial goals
• Form strong relationships with external stakeholders
• Ensure major donors are satisfied and kept in the loop

Daily & Monthly Responsibilities:

• Research individuals, corporations, and foundations that may be interested in gift-giving
• Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
• Craft grant applications and fundraising proposals
• Strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns
• Organize fundraising events while overseeing teams of volunteers
• Manage a budget and track where goals are being met

Service on YourPassion1st’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.

Board Terms:

YourPassion1st Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for unlimited additional terms. Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meeting will be held in coordination with board meetings
