Physician Billing Manager- (Shared Service Center)

Position Summary Manages and supports the operations of the Physician’s Organization (PO) professional billing and collection functions related to assigned Foundations or Departments. Collaborates with peers and PO Management in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for billing and collection activity. Key Responsibilities Manages day-to-day billing operations for assigned departments or foundations. Maintains a high-performing team through effective supervision and ensures staff receive appropriate training in billing procedures and use of EPIC to enable timely and accurate billing of physician services. Develops daily, weekly, and monthly work priorities for supervisors and staff, recommends disposition of accounts, reviews billing reports and collections, and ensures production and quality assurance metrics are met. Identifies, communicates, and resolves issues as necessary. Collaborates with peers, directors, and PO leadership to develop, write, and implement policies and procedures for the physician billing office while maintaining compliance with hospital billing policies. Analyzes billing procedures, works with the PO contracting department and quality staff on workflow changes, and recommends implementations to adapt to changing payer requirements or clinical activities. Provides reporting and support for various initiatives. Leads and maintains a billing department focused on patient satisfaction and efficient operations, organizing office logistics, equipment, and supplies. Establishes vendor relationships and operational procedures for clearinghouse functions, patient statement processing, and collection efforts for responsible parties. Stays current with billing requirement changes, using this knowledge to develop or modify policies. Participates in training program design and execution to assist billing staff in responding to inquiries. Works with PO management, foundation chiefs, and department administrators to resolve program-specific problems. Maintains contact with third‑party payer representatives, monitors reimbursement changes and trends, and interacts with hospital-managed care and patient financial services. Attends internal and external meetings as directed by PO management. Education Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree with six years of progressively responsible billing experience or equivalent employment experience in a physician or hospital billing office that has had direct report responsibility or oversight. Experience Three years of revenue‑cycle experience, preferably with significant health‑insurance revenue‑cycle exposure. Experience in cardiology and/or behavioral health professional billing is preferred. Previous experience managing large teams (10+ employees) is preferred. Analytical skills are necessary to design or enhance billing systems and programs. State‑of‑the‑art awareness of billing requirements and technology related to physician billing to resolve problems. Ability to effectively manage employees within the assigned unit/department and to persuade and negotiate with peer‑level managers and superiors on issues and programs that impact the department. The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good‑faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job‑related factors.
