The Career Advisor will serve as a lead in developing career programming and conducting career preparation activities for students and alumni including workshops, resume/cover letter services, collaborative presentations/programs, mock interviews, and internship/job search training. Collaborate with college and program faculty, student affairs, and internal department colleagues to create customized training programs for students in particular colleges and/or career fields. Provide individual appointments and group assistance to students and alumni on all career development related needs. Support office events and operations such as career fairs, networking events, alumni engagement, admissions events, retention initiatives, and student life programs.
You will:
Serve as subject matter expert for internships, careers, and career readiness initiatives for students. Understand and effectively communicate hiring standards, practices, and related information for these programs and associated industries. Develop a deep knowledge of careers and industries available to students and alumni in these programs.
Lead departmental development and execution of yearly programming related to career management and preparation services for students and alumni including workshop development on resume/cover letter services, mock interviews, and internship/job search training.
Build collaborative relationships with faculty, academic support, and student affairs colleagues to ensure adequate programs and resources to meet customized needs of students and alumni with a wide variety of career interests. Develop targeted programming to prepare students for the job/internship search (resumes/cover letters, interviews, job offers, salary information, etc.)
Collaborate with various student groups and departments to execute career development programs. Lead the creation and execution of creative programming to engage students.
Work individually with students and alumni on career development related needs including career exploration, resume/cover letter development, job/internship searches, interviewing assistance, and graduate school preparation.
Provide leadership and support to -Application Ready- initiatives including course delivery, content creation, resource management, and execution of events/programs to ensure students are ready to apply to partnership opportunities.
Meet with and coach students (undergraduate and graduate) and alumni on a variety of skill and personality assessment programs to develop individualized career development plans.
Utilize Handshake career management system for appointment setting and notes, career resource development, event management, and student engagement.
Actively connect students and alumni with resources on career and graduate school options such as written and web-based materials, informational interviews, faculty, staff, etc.
Support academic program initiatives, industry engagement, grants and sponsorships, and related activities to build effective knowledge of academic programs and opportunities.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Develop and maintain knowledge of local, regional, and national hiring trends as well as employer preferences for hiring college graduates. Develop and maintain knowledge of graduate schools, application trends, and testing requirements.
Maintain required advising notes, data metrics, and submit reports as required.
Utilize numerous technologies including Handshake, resume and interview software, career assessments, and internal University technology for daily office operations and education programs.

You need:
Bachelor-s degree AND at least 2-3 years of related student counseling, coaching, or advising experience, preferably in a college career center OR appropriate combination of education and work experience.
Experience working with students and alumni on career development needs including resumes, job searching, internships, interviewing, graduate school preparation, portfolios, and other career-related information and resources.
Ability to learn and convey subject matter expertise is required.
Knowledge of career planning theory, practices, and techniques including career assessment instruments.
Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff on academic and career planning programs.
Knowledge of issues pertaining to first-generation college students, graduate students, international students, mid-career changers, and senior level alumni.
Skill in both verbal and written communication. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work with constant interruptions. Comfortable working in an open office environment.
Proficiency with technology including Handshake, MS Office, online research, online career development tools, and other office technology
