Head Coach, Men's Tennis

The client is seeking a Head Coach for the men’s tennis program to provide strategic leadership for a Division I team. The role includes planning and conducting practices, developing competitive game strategies, and maximizing student-athlete performance. The Head Coach recruits, develops, and mentors student-athletes who demonstrate strong character and academic commitment, while fostering a values-driven team culture. The coach leads, evaluates, and collaborates with assistant coaches and support staff and serves as a key ambassador for the program within the campus community and beyond. Key responsibilities include developing and sustaining the varsity program in alignment with relevant league, NCAA, and institutional rules; creating and managing recruitment processes and final talent selection; and formulating policies related to strategies of play and conditioning to meet program goals. The role involves training and conditioning student-athletes, assessing mental and physical condition, and adjusting training methods when warranted. The Head Coach independently determines and shapes strategy, technical aspects, and game preparation, and teaches team concepts, while also overseeing contest management and administrative details, including recruitment, fund-raising, athlete performance support, and related operations. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of effective coaching techniques and best practices, with the ability to work in a diverse environment and maintain strong relationships with administrators, parents, students, and alumni. The coach should be able to organize and manage all facets of the program, including recruiting, scouting, individual instruction, budget planning, and monitoring academic progress, and must work both independently and collaboratively while demonstrating knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Strong communication skills are required, along with flexibility to work evenings and weekends; a bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience with knowledge of NCAA regulations) are expected, and CPR/AED/First Aid professional certification is preferred. Experience coaching at the collegiate or professional level is preferred, as are advanced safety or health-related certifications as required by specific positions, along with demonstrated discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
